Layers Pants:
Fun with zippers, these pants were inspired by traditional Japanese mending or Sashiko. I put my own personal spin on the idea using it to layer patterns and combine colors as the wearer pleases. Instead of mending a tear this method takes advantage of and uses the tear to give the garment more depth and layers.
These layers also provide an opportunity to play with imagery and perspective. The black here forms one ambiguous cohesive pattern while the blue denim creates almost an illusion between the layers of fabric and the zipper.
Scrap fabric camo pants
Here I’ve saved scraps from various camos and all over print and combined them to create a camouflage effect on a pair of paints, Ive also included a series of like color prints that contrast the camo, to line the pant and add detail to the back pockets. This piece was heavily inspired by one of my favorite brands Undercover and Number (n)ine who often blends contrasting materials to create a vintage punk rock effect by using bro style stitching
Inspiration
More Inspo
Creating something out of many other things. In drawing the usage of a series of dots to form an image is called stippling. I’m not sure if there’s a term for it using fabric as a medium or in fashion but I see the same concept at work every day in Giant Rexy.
Suit Jacket Pants
I was inspired by Moschino and Kate Spades conceptual purses, taking non traditional shapes or commonly recognized items and reconfiguring them to unexpected silhouettes. To borrow from this same concept I made a suit but I cut out half the wardrobe. I had also seen some experimental suit distressing on instagram with made me consider how exactly I can flip a traditional suit silhouette.
Inspiration
The sense of surprise that often accompanies the re-application of traditional silhouettes on to non-traditional stages always invites curiosity and comes with a lesson in garment construction
Fur waisted embellished denim
My fascination with Japanese luxury streetwear inspired me to blend this genre of fashion with my own personal style. Unlike most of my pieces this one is less focused on any particular story or legend but it is inspired by incredible designers I look up to like Takahiromiyashita The Soloist and Jun Takahashi.
Coffin Denim:
Three Different Iterations.
An original concept brought to life. Coffin pants. Here I used my own style as inspiration as bondage style pants are something that relate to multiple elements of fashion design I like such as room for accessories, proper fit, and multi pocket functionality. I chose to build on these traits and embellish the jeans more with coffins are zip closure pockets and a fly zip closure. One of my favorite pieces I’ve made, and a staple in my archives.
Baileymyown is a musical artist. I have done freelance work for Rissa Creative Consulting with Marissa Pelly and all of us teamed up to abide by treatment guidelines and follow a story with her wardrobe. Within her wardrobe was a piece I created blending a skirt and flannel. The goal was to blend the two so that they naturally looked as though the flannel was tied around her waist.
